MELKSHAM Rugby Club says the new season has got off to a flying start, with even more involvement of men, women and children of all ages.
Club president, Gary Cooke says, “On the field I’ve watched every section of the club over the last month and am really happy the way the club’s bouncing back after two years of Covid.
“Our seniors men’s team has a new great new team spirit and a fabulous new atmosphere around the players who are playing with a lot more enjoyment and passion. The first team have been flying high with a great start to the season, but in recent weeks have been brought down to earth again by losing to the top and bottom teams. Time to bounce back boys and show what we’re made of!
“2nd team strength in depth; We beat top-of-the-league Coombe Down last weekend, with a great game with Melksham always leading, but never that far away so they could take the foot of the gas. Well done, stick at it lads and well done.
“Mixed Ability rugby; This is new to the club over the last year and now the fastest growing section of the club. Suitable for anyone and everyone, this game is reviving clubs with new and past players able to play together in such a positive and healthy way. Great to watch, even better to play. Come on down on a Monday night to experience it and maybe even join in.
“Ladies; go ladies go. Just losing to top place (and we were understrength with a few key injuries) and another good win away this weekend. We’re performing very well in this league and every possibility of winning this league. Stick at it ladies, work hard and the league’s there for the taking.
“Our Ladies will be following the England Ladies this weekend in the Women’s Rugby Union World Cup final. The club is open from 6am! See you there?
“Minis and Juniors; A pleasure to watch and admire what’s going on in the minis and junior sections. It is not all about winning, it is the taking part, particularly in the younger age groups. At a recent game at home against Marlborough, multiple parents expressed the enjoyment this was bringing their children and them, by the way the rugby was being played between the teams. It actually bought a lump to my throat and I really thought yes, this is rugby and it is great to see and be told about and well done to all concerned in the minis and juniors.
“Finally, I have to add that off the field we are blessed to have the wonder that is Zoe, our club manager, who has reinvigorated the club after Covid, remodelled and improved lots of aspects of the club’s operation and just got the club busy. Keep up the tremendous work Zoe and your team, and thank you from me and our committee.”
