CHARITY fundraiser, Sue Mortimer, did her own 5K poppy run to raise much-needed funds for the British Legion. With money still coming in, she has so far raised £335.
This year’s ‘My Poppy Run 2020’ encouraged everyone to join a virtual community of fellow runners across the UK and complete their own run.
In previous years, Sue had raised funds for the British Legion by holding ballroom dances, but this year that was not going to be possible due to Covid-19.
Sue said, “Pandemic or no pandemic, I wanted to continue raising funds for The British Legion as I feel the work they do is vital in supporting veterans, serving members of the armed forces and their families.”
Sue ran the 5K Melksham Parkrun route in 39 mins 59 seconds and thanked all her family and friends for their encouragement and support. The date of the run, on 9th November, was an especially poignant date for Sue as it was her late father, Alan Hayton, and late brother, Jeffery Hayton’s birthdays.
Sue’s target was to raise £150 as this was generally the amount raised from the ballroom dances she held, but with help from her supporters, she now wants to raise as much money as possible for the Royal British Legion.
