With just over a week to go until this year’s Sarsen Trail and Neolithic Marathon, on Sunday 3rd May, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is reminding runners they have only a few days left to register.
Walkers and cyclists can enter on the day, and organiser Derek Gard said, “Walking entries have been up on last year, with almost 600 to date. That’s great, but we would welcome more entrants still – be they walking, cycling or running – to make this popular event even bigger and better and help raise much-needed funds for the Trust.”
The Sarsen Trail was established almost 30 years ago and is the Trust’s major annual fundraiser. Not only walkers, runners and cyclists, but even dogs are catered for with the chance to run with their owners.
Walkers can opt for a seven-mile stroll, an 11-mile hike or a stride out to Stonehenge. Last year 1,100 people did the walk. The route will start at the stone circle of Avebury and end at Old Carter Barracks, near Durrington.
Derek said, “Unfortunately, due to the recent developments at Stonehenge, we have been unable to secure a finish adjoining the stones. Thankfully Landmarc and the Army have come to our rescue and given us a new finish site – which still has a view of Stonehenge.”
Runners have until Friday 24th April to register, but walkers and cyclists can enter on the day.
