A GROUP of young environmental campaigners from Holt have launched an online campaign asking the community to make a pledge to reduce their use of single-use plastic.
Led by 14-year-old William Curtis, the campaigners – who are members of Plastic Free Holt – are asking everyone to draw a picture of something from the natural world with a piece of single-use plastic that they intend to give up.
The drawings are then shared on the group’s Instagram page ‘Free Nature From Plastic’ – the social media platform for sharing photos and videos.
The young campaigners intend to use the online campaign as a way to contact local MP Michelle Donelan, to ask what the government is doing about plastic pollution.
William told Melksham News, “My friends and I wanted to do something about the amount of plastic pollution and the way it is affecting nature.
“We are asking people to draw a picture of their favourite thing from nature with a piece of single use plastic which they pledge to give up in the background.
“They then need to be photographed holding their artwork and send us the picture and we will upload it to the account. They can send a message to go with their picture which we will also publish.
“Once we have enough posts, we will contact our local MP to arrange a virtual meeting, to ask what the government is doing to reverse the tide of plastic pollution.”
