A FOREST and Sandridge School student has raised over £500 for a horse charity by chopping off her locks!
Seven-year old Sophie Travers raised a total of £525. She also donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.
“Carl [Sophie’s dad] and I are extremely proud of Sophie and what she has done,” said Sophie’s mum Nikki. “She loved her long hair and so this was a huge sacrifice for her.
“We want to say thank you to everyone who sponsored Sophie, to Mikayla Ayliffe for cutting Sophie’s hair and to our next-door neighbour Helen and her friend Gillian who let Sophie ride their horses Ace and Twinkle as a special treat for her fundraising efforts.”
The funds raised went to Bristol-based animal welfare charity, Horse World.
“They rescue neglected, abandoned and abused ponies, horses and donkeys,” explained Nikki. “Sophie loves horses and so she wanted the money raised to go to a charity to do with horses and as this was local it was perfect. We will be taking Sophie to visit soon.
About what Sophie has planned next, her mum Nikki said, “At the moment she doesn’t have any future fundraising plans, but she is thinking about whether she will grow her hair and possibly cut and donate again in the future.”
