Melksham based electric folk rock band “Sackful of Sovereigns” are looking for a couple of new musicians for their eighth line-up.
“Unfortunately our bass player couldn’t continue due to ill health and we lost our main vocalist due to her other commitments. We now have a new vocalist who joined us recently but we’re still looking for a bass player, preferably with backing vocals, and also an instrumentalist, again preferably with backing vocals’” said guitarist Colin Harrison.
“On the instrumentalist side of things a fiddle player is the first preference but we would consider any instrument as long as the feel is right for the music. In the past we’ve had flute, fiddle, soprano saxophone, concertina and whistle soloists in the band.
“The current band line-up is guitar/mandolin, bass guitar, drums, keyboards and banjo with two vocalists. We play our own arrangements of traditional folk music, our own songs based on local subjects and standards from a range of genres. We rehearse as we need to and perform a couple of times a month fitting in around each of our commitments.”
The band was formed in 1996 and has had seven different line-ups since then. They’ve recorded five CDs, “Small Change”, “Bound For The Promised Land”, “Up To The Hilt”, “In for a Penny” and “The Other Side of the Coin” and you can check out the band’s history on their website at www.sackfulofsovereigns.co.uk.
