THE Seend Fete & Flower Show 2014 will be held on Saturday 9th August.
Jo McManus, Chair, Seend Fete said, “Our fabulous village fete is being held once again on the Lye Field in Seend on 9th August. We’re looking forward to welcoming hundreds of visitors to come and celebrate the summer with us in traditional style.
“The fun starts just before 1.00pm when our princess and attendants will enter the arena followed by the fancy dress parade. There are great prizes to be won for children, adults and groups in the fancy dress competition, entry is on the day and anyone is welcome to come along to the arena at 12.45pm to be part of the parade and be in with a chance of winning! The fete will be officially opened at 1.00pm by the Fete Princess, Izzy Nichols and her three attendants, Joseph Bowes, Bo Griffiths and Isabel Brown.
“This year we have a local flora and fauna theme. The National Trust will be bringing their mobile unit with some fun nature activities and we’ll be making some beautiful butterflies in our craft tent. There will be some beautiful birds of prey to look at and hold and we have a mobile farm coming to the field!
“In the arena we’ll be entertained by a juggler and circus performer. The Wiltshire School of Gymnastics will be putting on another spectacular display and back by popular demand we have our fun dog show, including a round of ‘musical sits’ – entries on the day.
“Traditional stalls and attractions at the fete will include Corsham Brass Band, a punch and judy show, white elephant and tombola stalls, a grand draw, book and plant stalls, model train rides, huge bouncy castles, a tug of war, vintage cars, a model aircraft display and much much more.
“There will be plenty of food and drink on offer with teas and cakes, beer and Pimms tents, barbecue, ice creams and vintage sweets. New this year will be a vegetarian curry stall. We are also introducing a new prize and cup this year – the Prolze Cup for outstanding contribution to the fete. This prize will be awarded to one of our fabulous volunteers each year in memory of the amazing Bernie Prolze. Bernie spent many years as chairman of the fete and did a wonderful job in mobilizing the community and making a success of this annual event. He died earlier this year.
“The fete is organised and run by a large group of local volunteers and receives massive community support. It is run in aid of the village’s Lye Field and Pavilion.”
The Flower Show, admission £1, is open from 1.30pm until 4.45pm in the Community Centre in Rusty Lane, Seend.
