THIS month Melksham Seniors are launching a new pilot scheme to reach out to older people in the surrounding villages.
The group is hoping to help try and ease loneliness and isolation in the wider Melksham community and learn more about how they can support individuals to attend their regular meetings.
The group will first be visiting Atworth on Monday 14th January from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Chairman Jim Law says, “Come and join us at the Atworth Village Hall for two hours of chatting and socialising with most of the committee.”
The Seniors will be visiting Shaw in February and Beanacre in March.
As well as their new pilot scheme, the Seniors will be hosting their regular weekly and monthly social events.
Once a month on the first Monday of the month, the Seniors meet at Forest Community Centre to enjoy a wide range of outdoor and indoor games and activities that not only help to improve health, but also plenty of laughs. Join the group from 1.30pm until 4pm.
On the third Monday of every month, the Seniors screen a film at the Assembly Hall from 1.30pm until 4pm. Entry is free, but donations are encouraged to help support the event. At the interval there is a raffle, and tea and biscuits.
Every Thursday, the Melksham Seniors Activity & Social Club meet at the Riverside Club from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The weekly Thursday morning activities include a great favourite “Smile and Sing along” under the leadership of Sue Stone. Then on alternate weeks they have Clare Webber, well-known locally for her excellent happy classes of balance, mobility, strength and stretch exercises for the more mature. They are always great fun and often pretty hilarious as the oldies swing along to great music.
Chairman Jim says, “It is a good two hours of socialising, a cup of tea or coffee, chocolate biscuits, or just ordinary biscuits all sorts, a raffle, plus games if you want to play, we really do have a fun two hours.”
The Seniors are also looking for assistance to help with transport, helping members attend the group’s functions.
