The Food and Drink Fayre that has taken place in Melksham House for the last six years was at risk of not happening because of proposed work on the campus.
Festival organisers wanted to continue with this extremely successful event, so entered into negotiations with the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust to join forces and put on a joint festival where the expertise of both could culminate in a great weekend for the residents and visitors to Melksham.
Last year’s River Festival in King George V Playing Field was organised by the Melksham, Chippenham and Calne branch of the Wilts and Berks Canal and was a great success, with boat rides and demonstrations on the river, as well as many land based activities for children.
These will feature again among an abundance of stalls selling local hot and cold food and cooking demonstrations for a day that promises to have something for everyone.
The weekend of 5th and 6th September is the date for the Melksham Food and River Festival, with Littlefest taking place on the Saturday outside Waitrose.
On the Saturday you will be also be able to take a boat trip along the River Avon; these trips being run by the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust. The canoe club will also be running taster sessions at the canoe centre by the Adventure Centre.
The main Festival and Fayre is in King George V Playing Field on Sunday 6th September.
Stalls for the Sunday can be booked by contacting Miriam Zaccarelli on 01225 704187 or foodand riverfestival@melkshamtown.co.uk
