A NEW exhibition for September in Melksham’s Art House Cafe gallery sees the work of a group of artists, Omniart, plus local artists Roger Marsh, Ken Steadman, Brian Bennett, Dorothy Hague, Mike and Frances Brimson, and Tom Green.
“With such a wide range of individual artists, this month’s group exhibition includes a huge variety of paintings and styles,” said exhibition organiser Pattie Lockett.
“Omniart is a small group of artists who meet every Friday to make art and exchange ideas at Bulkington Village Hall. Members are encouraged to develop their own individual style through mutual support, honest feedback, and some friendly banter. They hold regular exhibitions at various venues and this month seven members are exhibiting at the Art House Cafe.
“Roger Marsh retired early from a career as a psychotherapist and returned to college to learn to draw and paint. He is fascinated by similarities of forms appearing both in nature and in the internal world. He prefers to leave his work open to the projections of the viewer.
“Also exhibiting this month is Ken Steadman, who works mainly in acrylic. His artwork is quite surreal; sometimes serious, sometimes humorous and very often quirky. In Ken’s paintings there is something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate.
“Brian Bennett started copying Disney cartoon characters at the age of 10, then went to painting classes in his 20s. Now retired from a career as an engineer and later in design and print, he can spend time exploring painting techniques and styles.
“Dorothy Hague is well known for her paintings of wildlife. She goes to Africa on safari, but has also been to India and Nepal. She paints in oils and acrylics and tries to convey the power of the “Big Five” animals.
“Husband and wife members, Mike and Frances Brimson are also exhibiting. They paint in watercolour, oils and acrylics. Tom Green has been painting for about 15years and prefers mixed media and lino-cut. He creates unique landscapes, concentrating on shape and colour.
Currently there are vacancies for suitable artists to join the group. For further information email: roger.g.marsh@btinternet. com
