SHAW and Whitley Action Group (SWAG) held its first meeting last month and is now officially up and running.
The action group was set up earlier this year by residents of the villages, as a way of collaborating to improve their quality of life. It was based on similar action groups such as the one in Bowerhill (BRAG), which recently secured area board funding for more seating in the village.
Group secretary Mark Ashkowski said, “We are delighted to announce the formation of the Shaw and Whitley Action Group. The purpose of the group is to represent residents’ views and to coordinate community action on various issues that affect the villages such as litter picking, flooding, pathways, and proposed housing developments.
“The group’s work is to be coordinated by a committee of members, which will include a member from Melksham Without Parish Council. Working in partnership with the council will help ensure that residents’ concerns can be effectively communicated to local government, and that action can be taken to help address those concerns.
“Anyone with an interest in Shaw and Whitley is welcome to attend our full meetings, where we hope to see as many members of the community as possible.”
Michelle Tattersall has been elected the chair, Tony Bruun the treasurer, and Mark Ashkowski the secretary.
