THE president Sylvia Bennett opened the meeting and welcomed one visitor and members were thanked for their support at the Queens birthday celebrations held at the village hall.
We did cakes and teas with the church which was very successful, and had a promotion stall. A big thank you to all for a wonderful effort.
Geraldine gave her report on the Annual Meeting held in Brighton and had enjoyed her time there.
Our speaker for the evening was Alan Lank who had stepped in at very short notice to give a very interesting talk about the history and progress of the Wilts and Berkshire Canal, restoration. Every one enjoyed this very interesting talk.
At the July meeting, 17 members gathered for the meeting. We held a minutes silence to remember Francis Taylor who had passed away in Mavern house. Lin and Marilyn had visited Mavern house in June and this time they made scones which the residents seemed to enjoy.
The president reminded us of our garden outing to the Manor House in Steeple Ashton on the 26th July at 2pm and also on the 4th August an afternoon tea with Tony Griffiths providing the entertainment, tickets will be £6.
After the rest of the business, Dr. F. Burroughes was welcomed to speak on the World of Glass, going into the history and showing us many old and valuable items, what a treat it was beautiful. We were all a bit concerned as we were allowed to handle these items.
Jackie Gidding gave the vote of thanks and we ended our meeting with tea. Our next meeting is on the 12th September when our speaker will be Life in your Garden. Do join us, all welcome.
