OUR president, Sylvia, opened our 56th birthday meeting and welcomed three visitors, the minutes were read and signed.
Lots of events are coming up, with many courses at Denman college, and there will be a change of speaker at the Salisbury A.G.M. On Wednesday 11th October, the Reverend Richard Cole has had to cancel and Mandy Hickson former R.A.F. Tornado Pilot will be taking his place.
Several members attended a Scandinavia day at Market Lavington which was enjoyed by all. Flower arranging at the Reading Rooms was well attended; this always proves to be a relaxing and very social time. Lin and Marilyn attended Mavern House and made apple pies, which went down well with the afternoon tea.
Our speakers for the evening were from the community police team, W.P.C. Gemma and Lewis, a part-time special joined her later. They showed us their uniforms, body vests and the equipment they have to carry. Cameras are now compulsory, which protects them and proved very important when giving evidence at a later date. They explained all aspects of their jobs and answered many questions that were put to them – you could see they both enjoyed the job they did. They were thanked by Jackie and the evening finished with cake and tea.
Next month the speaker will be Margaret Hiscocks “Wiltshire Scrap Book” and we will also be having a Christmas craft stall.
