THE upkeep of the Avon Place shopping precinct in the town centre has been criticised by local shoppers.
Complaints have been made about overflowing rubbish bins, litter on the floor, and the hazard to public safety caused by construction safety sbarriers strewn across the floor of the precinct and plastic fence netting hanging down onto the pavement from the roof.
“This is a disgrace, “said local man Jim Law.,“surely someone has got to answer for this atrocity, just think of the damage someone could do to themselves falling over this, impaired sighted for instance, or anyone not taking notice of where they’re going.”
This is not the first time the management of the precinct has come under fire. Last year, Melksham News reported on a number of complaints made by local residents about overflowing rubbish bins.
“The Avon Place precinct is a disgrace,” said Sandra Gill last year. “The bins are always overflowing, cigarette ends all over the floor, coffee cups and napkins everywhere.”
Melksham News approached Bridger Bell Commercial, the company responsible for the maintenance of the Avon Place shopping precinct, about the complaints, but received no response before going to press.
