Aloeric Primary School’s children enjoyed some special animal visits recently.
Squirrel and rabbit class enjoyed a visit by George, a puppy walker for Guide Dogs for the Blind, who brought along a special visitor, Rhona, a 5-month-old labrador / golden retriever cross.
He showed the children some of the things Rhona can do, including sit, down and leave (a treat was put on her paw) and explained how she was being trained to help people who couldn’t see. The children were able to stroke the puppy and some of them brought in a donation to go towards the guide dog charity.
Both classes also visited horses that belong to Mrs. Roberts, a teaching assistant at Aloeric School. They were able to groom, pet and ask question about how she looked after them, what they liked to eat and where they slept.
Both visits were to extend their learning and understanding about how animals worked with and for us.
