THERE were double celebrations at Spencer Bowls Club last month.
The club reports, “It was a busy day for members of Spencer Melksham Bowls Club on 29th May as they hosted an open morning as part of the National Bowls Big Weekend; an initiative supported by Bowls England to encourage more people to take up bowls.
“We welcomed several new players to our green and hopefully showed them that bowls is a sport that is enjoyable and accessible to all. We are looking forward to welcoming them back on the next four Friday evenings to hone their newly-found skills.
“Having cleared away our Bowls Big Weekend balloons, it was time to get out the red, white and blue bunting as 40 members and their families gathered to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
“We were treated to an array of sandwiches and cakes, as well as a small glass of fizz to toast Her Majesty the Queen. The ‘Royal Quiz’ was hotly contested, with club secretary, Richard Thurston, and his team winning.
“This is the third social event organised by social secretary ,Sue Stinchcombe, with club members agreeing that it is nice to get back to doing more as a club.”
