Students at Melksham Oak Community School recently took part in the next steps careers fair, exploring options for their future.
At the fair there was a mixture of employers, clubs, associations and apprenticeship providers, giving the students from Year 7 to Year 13, advice about life after school.
Head of careers Ceri Tranter said, “Today has been about inspiring young people. It’s about them having a choice of who they go and chat to. It’s about them thinking about what work experience they can do. It’s about them thinking about their next steps. What choices are they going to make to make the right choices for life.”
The students were split into four house groups and each student was tasked with speaking to five separate employers, that they would fill out on a card.
Ceri said, “At the end of the day, their card goes into the box and they will be awarded house points which they are all really hyper about. They will then be entered into the school system for the end of house points year where it becomes really competitive.”
A Year 9 student said, “[Today is] for me to understand different jobs and opportunities that you can take when you are older and different courses you can take to get that job. I want to join the RAF. I have spoken to them today.”
