LOCAL teachers have been hailed “superheroes” by care home staff and their children for their support during the pandemic.
The teachers, who have helped keep schools open during lockdown for children of keyworkers, have been credited with giving “peace of mind” to care home staff helping them to continue their own important work.
Winning teachers were selected by children of staff at Blenheim House Care Home, who were asked to vote for their favourite teacher over lockdown.
Winning teachers at Melksham Oak Community School, River Mead School, and The Manor School received a care package and a certificate thanking them for their support.
The care home said, “These passionately dedicated professionals from our local primary and secondary schools have allowed our staff to concentrate on delivering our exceptional care standards, knowing that their children are safely engaged and continuing their studies.
“Working with the children and their parents, they were able to safely award each teacher a half-term treats hamper, and an accompanying poster of thanks from Majesticare for their dedication and excellence in delivering education at their respective schools.”
“Perhaps without knowing it, our communities teachers are also a vital part of Blenheim House Care Home,” added Blenheim’s community & lifestyle liaison lead, Chris Guest. “They allow our wonderful staff to focus on giving care to our residents, adding peace of mind and reassurance that their children are looked after and continue enjoying being children during these uncertain times.
“Whilst our children are learning, our residents receive the highest standard of care in a safe and controlled environment.”
Melksham’s winning superhero teachers were, Mrs Gordon from The Manor Primary School; Mr Phylis from Melksham Oak Community School; and Mr Torrington and Mrs Udakis from River Mead School.
Teachers at Corsham Primary School, Studley Green Primary School, and John of Gaunt School were also rewarded by the care home.
