MELKSHAM’S allotment holders will soon be able to donate any surplus produce they have grown to the town’s community larder. Until now, this has not been possible under the current allotment tenancy regulations.
The town council currently hold 149 allotment plots around eight different locations in Melksham, the locations are: Addison Road, Awdry Avenue, Dorset Crescent, Methuen Avenue, Milton Avenue, Portman Road, Southbrook Road, Wiltshire Crescent.
Mayor of Melksham cllr Simon Crundell said, “We give a subsidised rate to allotment users who are not allowed to grow produce for commercial sale and it seems that clause in our agreement prohibits tenants at the allotment from donating to the community larder. I think it’s a brilliant idea to alter our agreement.”
Melksham’s community larder has now moved to the Round House in Church Street.
