ALZHEIMER’S Support is on the frontline of the Covid-19 crisis in Wiltshire, providing vital social care for people living with dementia. Every day it visits its most vulnerable clients who are isolated at home, and provides emotional support by phone to many more. It is essential for the charity that this work continues, and its services survive.
So instead of cancelling its fundraising Walk to Remember, the charity decided to turn its 30th anniversary walk into a free virtual event! And it would like people to take part in their own home-based fitness challenge on Saturday, May 16th.
How you take part is up to you. For example, the Mitchell family is doing a 12-hour danceathon at home, George is cycling 80 miles a week to deliver his grandparents’ newspapers and Laura and Ross Crouch are doing an 8.5-mile walk around their house with their four-year-old twins. You could walk laps around your garden or front room, or go up and down the stairs. Or set yourself a target on the exercise bike or treadmill, or whatever feels like a fun keep-fit challenge.
Get family or friends involved! Whether you are at home together or connecting from afar, make this a chance to keep in touch.
All you need to do is plan your home-based challenge, then register at alzheimerswiltshire.org.uk/Event/walk-to-remember2020
You can make a difference by taking part on 16th May and raising money and awareness for people living with dementia and family carers. Best of all, you will send a clear message that they are not forgotten.
