DID you know that the Melksham News is also available in an audio format for visually impaired people?
Chippenham-based charity, Chippenham & District Talking Newspapers, produce the Melksham Talking Newspaper, packed with all the latest news from the paper.
The charity wants to make sure that they are reaching everyone in the community that could benefit from their free service.
Speaking on behalf of the charity, Alan Scotford said, “It was great to read in the last edition of Melksham News that Caroline Fielding, who is registered as being blind, has been successful in persuading Wiltshire Council to move a bus stop in Spa Road, to make it a safer place for all who use it. Well done Caroline.
“Her story was, of course, included in the free audio version of that edition of the paper so that those in the Melksham area who have a sight impairment or a reading difficulty, would hear about Caroline’s achievement.
“The Melksham Talking Newspaper is recorded on the same day that the paper is published and listeners receive their copy on a USB stick, in a returnable free post plastic wallet, the next day.
“Each article is recorded on a separate track so that if the listener is not interested in a particular item, they can quickly move on to the next piece of news.
“The charity also supplies a free USB player where one is required. It also produces other weekly Talking Newspapers for the Chippenham, Calne, Corsham, Box, Lyneham and Malmesbury areas of Wiltshire.
“It is possible that local folk who have a sight impairment or reading difficulty, may not be aware that the friendly Melksham Talking Newspaper exists and is freely available to them each fortnight.
“So if anyone knows someone who might benefit from receiving the Melksham Talking Newspaper and keeping up to date with all that goes on in the local area, please tell them about this fantastic way in which the excellent news coverage of the Melksham News is available to them.
“All that is needed to receive the free Melksham Talking Newspaper is a phone call to the Secretary, Glyn Rees on 01249 659305, who will set things in motion straight away, including the delivery of a free USB player where one is required.”
