MELKSHAM Community Meals hosted a pancake race last week for the children at River Mead School to say thank you for their support.
Chair of Melksham Community Meals, Sue Mortimer said, “The event was our way of saying thank you to the children of River Mead School for all the amazing cards, letters and pictures they created for our users during lockdown, that were delivered in with their monthly surprises.”
The event was due to take place on Shrove Tuesday, but was postponed to last week because of bad weather.
“Congratulations and thank you to the children that entered the event with such energy and vigour,” said Sue. “You were all flipping marvellous! You truly earned your fruit treats!
“Four classes took part having great fun in the ‘flip and run’ team event. Badgers, the team that scored the most runs, were awarded the winning trophy in assembly the next day by headteacher Karen Austin.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the teachers for their help and cooperation in organising the event. Thanks also to my neighbour Ken for making the amazing trophy, Nicki from Cobblers Bench for providing the plaque, and thanks to the volunteers on the day – deputy mayor cllr Colin Goodhind, cllr Pat Aves. cllr Louisa Lewis, Annie Benham and Keith Jefferies.”
The results of flip and run event were: Badgers 103 runs – Gold; Kestrels 99 runs – Silver; Herons 92 runs- Bronze; and Frogs 91- Participation.
