AFTER a covid-enforced hiatus, the Box Ukulele Festival is returning this summer, on Saturday 16 July. The Box Ukulele Festival is a welcome addition to an impressive collection of music events held in Box and will be hosted by The Queen’s Head pub.
“The festival is a jam-packed, family-friendly day, full of musical ukulele fun!” say the organisers. “A fantastically varied line up of talent is scheduled with ukulele groups performing on stage throughout the day. If you thought ukulele was just about George Formby, then think again! This festival hosts bands catering to every taste!
“Gates will be open from 1pm with the day’s festivities carrying on until 11pm. As well as great music, food stalls will be available and the bars will be open, with an outdoor bar and stage undercover in case of inclement British summer weather.
“With happy ukulele sounds, strum-alongs, delicious food, plenty to drink and a great village location, this is a festival for music lovers of all ages! So, come along, join us and bring your ukulele if you fancy a strum-along!
“This festival is the third of its kind and is being organised by local six-piece ukulele band, The Mother Pluckers, a Box-based Ukulele group who have been playing together for seven years.
“The Mother Pluckers have performed at a variety of local fairs and festivals in the Southwest and, in 2019, won the ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition at Frome Ukulele Festival. After attending The Ukulele Festival of Great Britain the group felt inspired to organise and host a local charitable event in Box and thus Box Ukulele Festival (BUF) was founded. The Mother Pluckers are immensely proud of this event and especially proud of the money which has been raised for Dorothy House Hospice Care.”
Entrance is £10 per adult, children are free and all proceeds will be donated to Dorothy House Hospice Care.
