The Melksham Best Looking Business for Summer 2013 has been awarded to The Samovar Gift Shop in King Street.
The award was created by Melksham Town Team to recognise businesses that make a special effort in their displays and general appearance which contribute to making Melksham a lovely town to visit.
Pauline Fisher from the Samovar said, “We are delighted to receive this honour of ‘Best Looking Business’ and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to all our customers for voting for us. Our customers not only come from Melksham, but come from all around the country and the world. Many of them once lived in Melksham, moved away and come back to see us when they visit friends and family in the town.”
‘The Samovar’ is an independent business which has been in the same family for 27 years although it was originally started by the late Lady Holt Wilson in 1968.
It is mainly a gift shop that sells a variety of unusual and specialised gifts for special occasions such as anniversaries birthdays, christenings, name days, weddings, and retirements. Their gift stock is sourced from many major companies such as Dartington, Caithness, Enesco, Portmeirion. Children’s ware includes Peter Rabbit and Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Susan Fisher from the Samovar said, “Our jewellery and accessories are sourced from a variety of small companies and we take pride in finding ‘the unusual and different’ so the wearer is noticed.”
Nominations for the Autumn Best Looking Business are now being sought. Anyone wishing to nominate a business can email melkshamtown team@gmail.com with the name of the business and the reason, or drop in to the town hall to fill in a nomination form.
