Local Melksham campaigner, Clive Jefferies, has launched a petition calling for GreenSquare to hand over the play areas on the new East of Melksham estate to Melksham Town Council and for the bills they charge to local residents for maintenance of the estate to be significantly cut.
Clive said, “I don’t think it’s fair that residents on the new estate are paying twice for some facilities. The town council are taking over the play areas in the town from Wiltshire Council and every household in the town contributes towards the cost of running them through the precept charge on council tax. However, residents living on the new East of Melksham estate contribute towards the play areas across the town and then have to pay an extra charge to GreenSquare for the play areas on the estate.
“This strikes me as grossly unfair and I would prefer to see people who live on the new estate pay the same as everyone else in the town.”
