MELKSHAM’S Tourist Information Centre is open for business with a range of services available to residents and visitors.
“Melksham Tourist Information Centre in Church Street which, like most businesses in the area was affected by the pandemic is delighted to advise readers that in spite of everything, we are fully functional, thanks to our devoted staff and of course loyal customers who continued to support us, particularly helpful when the actual number of visitors to the area tumbled,” reports one of the centre’s volunteers, Pauline Baker.
“Melksham residents took a liking to jigsaw puzzles and reading books and the result was staggering, as a steady stream of these items changed hands regularly, with customers constantly buying, returning and purchasing a-fresh!
“The demand has been such that from 1st March, we are offering all our books for sale, still 50p per volume but purchases of 3 or more will only cost £1! Surely, a bargain that we hope customers will appreciate. A jolly good ‘Bogof’! Remember those?
“Sales of our regular items such as Wiltshire honey, greetings cards and gifts in general continue to be popular, and while many people decided not to send Christmas cards in 2021, we were pleased that the annual Cards for Good Causes did well considering the circumstances, for which we were very grateful. Stamps continue to be in demand, and without having to queue!
“Obviously, the Community Bus trips had to be curtailed but we are happy to report that the weekly Shoppers’ Bus is running successfully again and more people are enjoying the opportunity to get out and about. Hopefully, the very popular Days Out scheme will be starting again in the near future, and announcements will be made as soon as information becomes available.
“Tickets for many local events including the Assembly Hall can be booked at the centre, together with seats on the National Express coach, which has now resumed daily return trips to London.
“Our volunteer staff will warmly welcome customers old and new at the centre which is open from 10am to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday and 10am to 12noon on Saturday. We look forward to seeing everyone.”
