MELKSHAM Town Council is exploring innovative ways to tackle the issue of dog mess in and around the town.
The council’s team are looking at ideas and schemes that have been trialled or suggested in other towns and cities across the country.
Community engagement officer for the town council, Debbie Bentley, told Melksham News, “We are starting the conversation about what we can do to tackle this problem. It would appear that what works best are those schemes that offer free dog mess bags that dog owners can use if they have forgotten their own. However, we have not made any decisions yet on what Melksham Town Council will be doing.
“The town clerk has also been looking into getting permission for Melksham Town Council’s ground staff who are out and about in the town to be able to issue fixed penalty notices, not just for dog mess, but also litter.”
