MELKSHAM Town Council was last week on the “periphery” of a local Covid-19 “scare”.
The “local scare” prompted the council to make the “precautionary decision” to close all their buildings and services, including the town Splashpad, from Wednesday 9th September until further information was available.
The town council has confirmed that none of its staff or councillors have coronavirus, and that none were tested for the virus, or were eligible for a test.
Town council buildings and services reopened this week on Monday 14th September, after it was confirmed that the “matter was closed”.
Speaking at this week’s town council meeting, economic development manager, David McKnight, said, “Last Tuesday [8th September] the town council was on the very periphery of a local Covid-19 scare. As a responsible employer and leadership organisation in the town, and provider of services to the public in the town, we took the immediate and entirely precautionary decision to close our buildings and all operations until more details were available to us regarding the risk.
“I must emphasise that none of our staff or our councillors have coronavirus and that none were subjected to a Covid test, nor indeed were they eligible for one in respect to this risk.”
