THE Melksham branch of the Royal British Legion has launched this year’s poppy appeal on Thursday 27th October for two weeks until Saturday 12th November.
Poppies will be available in all Melksham’s local shops, pubs and clubs during this period. The team will also have tables in the main supermarkets for the purchase of poppies, 2022 lapel badges, plain and regimental crosses and many other poppy appeal items.
To assist with this year’s appeal, the team are looking for volunteering to man the tables, alongside branch members to take contactless and cash donations. Volunteers can help for as many hours or days as they can manage and choose which store is convenient for them to attend.
This year’s Remembrance Parade will be on Sunday 13th November in the morning from King Street car park, to arrive at the Cenotaph in time for the two minutes’ silence at 11am. There will be an additional service at the Cenotaph for those who are unable to get into the church. The service at the Cenotaph will be short, followed by the wreath laying, and then marching back to the King Street car park.
Organisations, schools or private individuals who would like to lay a wreath, please contact Trevor Paterson, as he has plenty in store. If there is anyone who would like to contact Trevor about this, or to assist this year, please contact 01225 899001 or 07884050097, or email trevorpaterson747@ hotmail.com
