205 Year 7 students from Melksham Oak will be competing to complete a mini triathlon on Wednesday 8th October.
This is part of the schools new ‘Big Bang’ approach; all of the learning in year 7 until Christmas is project based about ‘Mighty, Mighty Melksham’. The PE department at Melksham Oak has organised the mini triathlon to involve the local community.
During the morning students will be participating in a range of activities that involve both working in teams and individually. When in a team of three; one student will swim, one will run and one will cycle.
An alternative option is that individuals may enter and do all three if they feel up to the challenge. The swimmers will go first at the Blue Pool, followed by the runners from the Blue Pool to the town park where the cyclists will be lapping the park several times before finishing.
The aims of this physical session are to encourage students to enjoy physical activity, develop teamwork, engage in competition, to improve fitness levels and to be resilient.
As it is happening in the town centre there will be marshals all along the route to ensure the pupils safety. Pupils will also be cycling around Melksham town park. If you would like to assist the PE staff in a marshalling capacity contact the school on 01225 792700.
