MELKSHAM Link is a charity that operates for the benefit of the community, driving those who have no other reasonable way of getting to their medical appointments.
Last year the team of volunteer drivers made 1,500 journeys, clocking up 47,660 miles. Clients have been taken to Bath, Bristol, Swindon, Oxford and Weston-super-Mare as well as many more local journeys to doctors, dentists, and clinics.
Chairman of Melksham Link, Elizabeth Rowley, said, “Distance is not a problem; short or long, if you need our help, we will try to get you to your appointment. It has been a busy year as medical systems have been gradually catching up after the disruption of Covid. We try to help as many people as we can, but we do need as much notice as possible to try to ensure we can accommodate our clients.”
Melksham Link could not operate without its volunteers, who willingly give up their time to drive clients to appointments wait for them and then take them home.
Elizabeth said, “The committee, on behalf of the community give their sincere thanks to all the volunteers. They are paid expenses for their costs and can choose when and where they drive. It is a very flexible volunteering job without a regular commitment. Melksham Link has been fortunate this year to take on a number of new drivers, coordinators and committee members but there is always room for more. If you feel you could give up a few hours to help others, please contact us; you’ll receive a warm welcome.”

Elizabeth said, “May we take this opportunity to wish all our volunteers and clients a happy, healthy, and safe New Year 2023!”
