NATIONAL charity, The Conversation Volunteers (TCV) is opening an office in Melksham and will be delivering the National Citizen Service (NCS).
The NCS is a flagship government initiative which offers a unique opportunity for 16 and 17 year-olds to be provided with the opportunity to mix and build relationships with people from different social backgrounds and gain life skills.
It’s officially recognised by UCAS and increasingly valued by employers, allowing young people to really boost their CVs and university applications.
Young people are being encouraged to book onto the summer 2016 programme to advance their university and job prospects.
Jessica Rudge-Hamblin, TCV business leader, NCS contract said, “The NCS programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Wiltshire.
“Over several weeks it provides them with an amazing springboard for the future by developing new skills, confidence and increasing their sense of responsibility.
“Once they’ve completed NCS, their achievements are celebrated and all participants receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister.”
The programme has three main stages:
• On a team building residential, participants will do a mixture of activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, bushcraft, coasteering and raft building.
• The young people will then return to their communities, working with local businesses and other organisations to learn new skills they don’t get taught in class, such as CV writing, interview skills, project management and various other life skills, along with discovering more about their local community.
• They will then create and deliver their own community projects around issues they really care about in their local areas, such as homelessness or the local environment.
Bookings for the summer 2016 programme are now taking place and spaces are filling up fast.
