RESIDENTS will have to wait for the highly-anticipated eco-toilets that were due to arrive at the end of February, as the town council confirm they will now be installed on 28th April in the King George V Park.

It was announced in April last year that the eco toilets would be installed in June, which was then moved to July due to an ‘internal reorganisation’ at Healthmatic, the company in Calne which manufactures the toilet pods.
Melksham was due to be the first town in the UK to have the new eco toilets installed; but whilst waiting, an eco-toilet has already been installed in Calne.
A spokesperson from Melksham Town Council said, “Melksham residents might be aware that the two eco-loos did not arrive in the King George V Park as originally planned on the 28th of February this year.
“This is due to some inaccurate progress updates from the suppliers over the recent weeks. Healthmatic have apologised for the misinformation and have proposed a revised completion date of the 28th of April this year.
“Healthmatic have also appointed a new project manager, who will visit as soon as possible, liaising with the Melksham Town Council amenities team, to ensure they have a full and complete understanding of the installation requirements.
“Continuous updates which will include photographs of the construction process will be provided. Melksham Town Council has been assured that the proposed date of 28th April is a final backstop and will not be extended.”
Town clerk Linda Roberts said, “We understand this will be disappointing, but we will do our best to ensure this new deadline is kept.”
The Bath Road toilets that were closed towards the end of last year due to a rat infestation re-opened in January, as Wiltshire Council resolved the issue.
