A recommendation by directors that a dividend of 1% be paid to all saving members of West Wilts Credit Union was agreed at their recent AGM.
This is the third year in succession that the Credit Union has been able to pay a dividend to its members and reflects the growth and strength of this community-run savings and loans cooperative, particularly in Melksham.
Credit Union president Sam Selman said, “The Credit Union has now completed its first decade in business and has built up a solid membership base with a team of dedicated volunteers. We have a good geographical spread of collection points across west Wilts, covering most times of the day, Monday to Friday.
“However recognizing that there is a need for collection points to be available at weekends and evenings to attract members who work traditional hours, steps have now been taken to open a collection point in Edwards’ Stationery shop in Bank Street on Saturday mornings from 10.00am to 11.15am. This collection point will commence operations on Saturday 26th April and existing and new members will be made more than welcome.
“There has been a good deal of positive publicity promoting Credit Unions and we have been endorsed as a sector by central Government, housing associations, politicians and others. We continue to work closely with North and South Wilts Credit Unions, sharing a common website and working to standardise our forms, procedures, marketing and publicity.
“Further details on how West Wilts Credit Union can work for you can be obtained by either ringing 01225 704907 or by visiting our existing collection point in Melksham Library any Friday (apart from bank holidays) from 10.30am to 1.00pm. Our aims are to encourage saving amongst our members and, where appropriate, to offer cheap loans.”
