THE West Wiltshire School for Performing Arts (WWSPA) is offering children the chance to improve their communication skills through participation in performing arts classes.
Principal of WWSPA, Lorraine Mahoney says, “We are passionate about performing arts and the benefits it brings to children – life skills, confidence, making new friends and giving them a safe environment to be creative.
“In this age of technology and social media, it is becoming apparent that in some cases communication skills are not being developed in the same way they were a few years ago. For future generations, it is still very important to ‘give your child a voice’.
“This can be through singing, drama and/or dance – giving them the tools to express themselves and be heard. Whether it’s for public speaking, drama games, singing exams or just for fun.
“Assume that what your child has to say about the world is just as important as what you have to say. Assume that you can learn as much from them as they can from you. Enter their world through play, activities, discussions: don’t require them to enter yours in order to make contact.’
“Do you want your child to be able to communicate with others, both young and old? Do you want your child to be actively using their minds in a positive, caring and creative atmosphere? Do you want your child to be given the chance to use their imagination and express themselves through performing arts?

WWSPA has been running for several years with performing arts classes in Melksham on Saturday mornings and two ladies’ choirs – The Semingtones on Friday evenings in Semington, and The Songbirds on Monday afternoons at Wiltshire Rural Music in Trowbridge.
