EXCITING plans for the re-development of Whitehall Garden Centre, Lacock, have been given the go-ahead by Wiltshire Council.
The project will see the centre more than double in size from 10,617m2 to 22,578m2. The biggest change will be an increase in indoor space and most of the main building will be converted into a restaurant. There will also be large areas dedicated to furniture, gifts, seasonal displays and a farm shop.
The expansion of the centre is also expected to create at least 150 jobs for local people.
The application received 225 letters of support and nine letters of objection. Those who objected expressed concerns about traffic congestion and delays and the adverse impact on local town centres. However, the development received an overwhelming amount of support because of the increase to local employment, the benefits for other businesses and the improvement to the appearance of the existing site.
