Another year has gone by and once again the Melksham Committee of The Children’s Society is organising an Open Gardens afternoon and they are looking for more gardens to join in.
This will be the 18th time this event has taken place and it gives great pleasure to visitors who come from Melksham and further afield to see the gardens. At the same time, the event raises money for projects such as providing safe houses and access to help for the 100,000 children who run away from home each year, often ending up sleeping rough on the streets.
“The gardeners of Melksham have always been very supportive of this event and they help to make it a really worthwhile occasion,” said one of the organisers, Lesley Windebank.
“We usually have about a dozen gardens of all types and size, so why not let others admire the hard work you put into your garden? All arrangements will be made by the local committee of the Children’s Society including publicity, insurance, teas and ticket sales.
“Open Gardens is a scheme that has been tried in many towns and villages and brings great pleasure to garden lovers and in doing so, raises much money for charity.”
