WILTSHIRE Wildlife Trust has secured funding for habitat improvements to Clackers Brook.
The charity will carry out a full assessment of the health and water quality of the brook, which runs through the east of Melksham, Primrose Nature Area, the Woody play area, and King George V playing field.
The project will also involve more targeted work to improve the section that runs through the middle of Melksham to benefit wildlife and the people that use it.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust told Melksham News, “We are at the very early stages of planning, still identifying key landowners before we get to the design stage.
“As we progress through the project we will be calling for volunteers from the local community to get involved. However, at this stage, we would ask for any landowners along the river to get in touch via water@wiltshirewildlife.org to discuss how we can work together to improve the river.”
The project has received the backing of Melksham Town Council, who unanimously voted at a meeting of the King George V committee to allow Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to carry out the study on the section of the brook that runs through the park.
The town council also agreed that they would be open to suggestions from the charity for a design for the area of the park next to the brook, to help alleviate flooding.
