Bowerhill resident, Roy Lockyer, was lucky enough to recently photograph a woodpecker fledgling in his garden.

Roy said, “A female great spotted woodpecker fed for three weeks on the fat balls in our garden and yesterday visited with one of her babies. Whilst the mother was feeding a sparrow hawk swooped down. The baby froze whilst the mother took off with the sparrow hawk close behind. The baby stayed motionless for about 20 minutes until the mother arrived and called from a distance. Mother and baby were unharmed and reunited. Managed to get this rare picture of the baby.
