MELKSHAM Rotary is raising awareness of World Polio Day.
A spokesperson from the club says, “World Polio Day will be celebrated on Thursday 24th October globally, to generate awareness towards eradication of polio, as well as commemorating the efforts of employees of the World Health Organisation and other volunteers committed to the eradication of polio.
“Hopefully in Melksham the Town Hall will be lit in purple during this week, in celebration, and Melksham Rotary have fabric crocus buttonholes on sale at the Arthouse Café, Market Place, for a suggested donation of £1.
“Polio is a disease caused by a virus that affects the nervous system and is mainly spread by person-to-person contact or in drinking water.”
