WITH preparations under way for this year’s Melksham Carnival, next weekend sees the first of two royalty competition events to be held to find this year’s royal family.
Melksham Carnival is one of Melksham’s most anticipated events of the year and you could be part of it.
Melksham Carnival Royalty Competition will be held on Saturday 25th March, 7-10pm at Melksham Town Hall. There will be a disco with buffet-style refreshments available. Entry into the competition £3, entry for the event £4. If the entry form is returned with entry fee before 12pm on 24th March, you can enter the event for free.
Melksham Junior Carnival Royalty Competition will be held on Sunday 2nd April; 2 -4.30pm again at Melksham Town Hall. Afternoon tea and cakes will be available. Entry for event: adults £2, children free. Entry to the competition, £4 on the day or £3 in advance. Forms need to be returned with fee before 12pm Saturday 1st April.

Age categories are: • Fairy Princess – reception to year three. • Butterfly Princess – years four to six. • Carnival Princess – year seven to 17 years old. • Carnival Page – reception to year six. • Carnival Queen – 18+ years old.
Prizes for the winners are as follows: Dress and crown supplied by Belle of the Ball Bridals, suit for the Page boy, sash donated by C & A Embroidery, a piece of jewellery – donated by West Country Jewellers, photograph by Andy York and to take part in carnival procession on Saturday 22nd July.
