  • Melksham entrepreneur aims to demystify property market with new book

A Melksham entrepreneur has shared the secrets behind his success in a new book aimed at helping others break into the property market.

Neil Stewart, a former British Army engineer, has published The Book on UK Property Investing, which sets out seven ways to become a successful investor. The book includes a foreword by New York Times bestselling author Raymond Aaron.

Neil, who served 14 years in the Army as an electronics and telecommunications engineer, turned to business after leaving the forces. He ran a computer consultancy working with the police, schools and local companies before finding his passion in property in 2004.

His first buy-to-let purchase proved life-changing, allowing him to replace his salary within 18 months. Since then, he has built a career in property investment and mentoring, helping others navigate the financial and practical challenges of the market.

A selection of charity Christmas cards are available to purchase from the Tourist Information Centre in aid of Air Ambulance, RNLI and ReMind UK.

Individual Christmas cards hand-painted by a local artist are also available to purchase, as well as Melksham Calendars for sale at £6, with local pictures taken by Melksham’s own resident photographer Linda de Santiz.

There is also the usual array of gifts, including the bone China mugs displaying the town hall, fridge magnets, bags, coasters, key rings and tea towels, picturing scenes old and new from around the town.

  • Handmade, local and full of Christmas cheer – The Melksham Makers’ Christmas Market returns!

The Melksham Makers’ Market is back for its final event of the year – the much-loved Christmas Market, taking place on Saturday 29th November, from 10am to 2pm at the Melksham Assembly Hall.

Now in its seventh year, this volunteer-led community market is run by local makers Sarah Hillman, Nicola Coleman and Catherine Carpenter. What began as a small outdoor market in 2019 has grown into one of Melksham’s most anticipated events, giving local artists, crafters and small businesses the chance to showcase their work and connect with the community.

Visitors can expect a hall packed with handmade gifts, festive bakes, artwork, jewellery, ceramics, home décor and much more; all lovingly created by talented makers from Melksham and across Wiltshire.

  • Father Christmas set for fundraising journey around Melksham

Father Christmas will start his fundraising journey around Melksham this month, raising money for local causes.

In the past, funds have been donated to Melksham Food Bank, Brain Tumour Research, Wiltshire Mind, Melksham Christmas Lights and Julia’s House.

This year, the float will start at Leekes on the weekend of Saturday 29th November, before Santa begins his journey around Melksham’s streets from Tuesday 2nd December.

  • Community centre to host charity makers market

A charity makers market is being held at the Riverside Centre next month to raise funds for two local causes.

The Christmas market is due to take place on Saturday 13th December from 10am to 2pm, selling handcrafted items by local makers, including the Men’s Shed.

All proceeds from the market will be donated to the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity, which provides critical medical care by helicopter and critical care car. Funds will also go to Julia’s House in Devizes, a children’s hospice.

Chair of the centre, Chris Pickett, said, “Whilst we are fundraising to improve the toilet facilities in the centre, we are well aware that other charities are in need too. People can expect to see items from the Men’s Shed, including Christmas items such as reindeer, table decorations, toys and practical gifts like a keyboard.”

  • Melksham Toy Appeal: give a little joy this Christmas – and help the planet too

Local residents are being invited to help spread festive cheer and support a greener Christmas by donating new or good-condition toys for children across Melksham.

The Melksham Toy Appeal is now open for donations until 30th November, with drop-off points at Giffords Surgery and Melksham Town Hall.

Organisers are encouraging families to take the opportunity to reuse and recycle by passing on toys in excellent condition that are no longer played with. By donating pre-loved toys, residents can switch toys and reduce waste at a time of year when waste often increases.

Then, on Saturday 6th December, during the Melksham Christmas Lights Switch-On, Friends of Giffords Surgery will be hosting a festive fun event in the Council Chamber at Melksham Town Hall from 2pm to 6pm. Everyone will be welcome to come and take some toys for Christmas.
