MELKSHAM Rotary Club hosted its annual ‘Youth Speaks’ public speaking competition for local school pupils recently.
Students from Melksham Oak and Stonar School took part in the competition, when they competed against those from Chippenham and Bradford on Avon. The competition gives young people the experience of speaking in public and the opportunity to learn and practice high standards of expression, presentation and appearance, as well as receiving feedback from experienced adjudicators.
Melksham Rotarian Martin Elson said, “The evening showed just how talented these youngsters are. Subjects varied from gun violence and the media to biscuits and animal testing! All seven teams had carefully researched their subject, resulting in some excellent answers to audience questions. Altogether a most entertaining evening!”
