An invitation to speak on live radio would possibly fill you with dread, but the president of Melksham Speakers Club, when receiving such an invitation, took it in her stride and accepted the opportunity to speak about the benefits of the speakers club.
She spoke about how it can help everyone regardless of how shy they are, to gain confidence in everything that they do.
“She pointed out that within a few months she would encourage them to get up and speak in any situation. Nervous, yes, we are all nervous when we speak to strangers or in a strange place, but we feel the fear and do it anyway. Confidence in what we do gets our butterflies flying in formation and we therefore control the situation. It is not as fearful as one would imagine and controlling fear helps us control our nerves.
“New members are always given a warm welcome, just come and try us and you will find a very friendly group of people who are all aiming for the same thing and that is to improve our skills at presentations, speaking at meetings or something in our personal lives when we wish to give a wedding speech or a presentation at an organisation or vote of thanks.
“We meet at the Rachel Fowler Centre on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. The next meeting is on Tuesday 24th April and if you require further information please contact Sheila on 07726 537452.”
