Forest and Sandridge Primary School has won an award for their ‘In Your Neighbourhood’ entry, representing Melksham, in the South West in Bloom competition.
In July, a group of children showed the South West in Bloom assessor around the school grounds and explained how, over the year, children, staff and parents worked together to make a real difference to the school grounds and surrounding neighbourhood.
Projects included planting tree saplings along the school fence; taking part in the Great British Spring Clean; making an eye-catching work of outdoor art from recycled plastic and creating a ‘rainbow’ flower bed at the front of the school. The school’s PTA, Forest Friends, generously supported some of the projects.
Kathryn Bacon, outdoor learning teacher at the school said, “We are thrilled to receive this award, especially as it is the first time we have entered the competition.
“It really has been a whole school effort and everyone should be proud of what we have achieved.”
