LITTLEBROOK Courtyard is proudly displaying a hand-painted version of the Melksham coat of arms in support of upcoming celebrations for the town’s 800th market charter anniversary.
The coat of arms was painted by former local shop owner Philip Shone, and can be viewed at Antico Caffe in Littlebrook Courtyard. Melksham’s Royal Charter Weekend in September will see a number of special events taking place to mark 800 years of Melksham being granted a charter to hold a market.
Celebrations start on Friday 27th September, with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. On Saturday 28th September the Market Place will host a Town Criers’ competition and the Assembly Hall plays host in the evening to a medieval banquet. On Sunday 29th September, King George V playing field will be taken over by the Plantagenet Society, who will entertain crowds with a medieval tournament.
