CORE Church held its thirteenth Christmas Day free lunch at Melksham Assembly Hall, serving 180 meals across two sittings.
Gavin Owen of Core Church said, “It was bright and sunny on Christmas Day this year and the atmosphere was equally warm in Melksham Assembly Hall where Core Church held their community Christmas Dinner for the 13th year in a row. The team in the kitchen served up 180 meals to feed guests and helpers across two sittings plus deliveries to those who couldn’t make it to the venue.
“Once again we had a great team of volunteers who chose to share their Christmas Day with our guests. They kept the food coming, the drinks pouring and the conversations flowing. We also had a great turnout on Christmas Eve to help set up the room and some even came back on Christmas Day to help pack up.
“To all of our volunteers, my heartfelt thanks. Once again, the vital ingredients of our event were freely given by Melksham Town Council (the Assembly Hall and staff), I. D. Newman and Son Butchers (turkey) and Duncan Private Hire (transport). So many other businesses, organisations and individuals contributed to the event this year that were I to try and thank them individually I would be in danger of forgetting someone.
“Time and time again I was told by those who donated, we’re not doing this for any publicity, it’s just the right thing to do. So let me simply say, thank you all, you know who you are.”
