The group report, “We would like to help raise some cash and increase the awareness of the support Mind, the Melksham-based mental health charity, offers our community.  We all know someone close that has their battles – for some, it’s every day.

“On The Block Training will be working in collaboration with The Contender Gym to participate in completing 10,000 burpees in November. Anyone that has done some burpees will know that this is by no means an easy challenge to undertake.

“Leanna Pike, owner of  Dragons Lair MMA, and Mark Kent, owner of The Contender Gym will be the official adjudicators for On The Block and will film the event for authenticity.

“Participants from On The Block Training are Helen Holloway, Danielle Clements, Nicola Hazell, Harriet Kelly McKenzie, Sarah Church and  Tracy Steel.

“Participants from The Contender Gym are Rocco Richards, Dan Murphy,  James Cameron, Bill West, Ellis Holloway, and Luke Mayne.

“Please donate anything you can to help their continued supported to our community. Please like and share our link – see Dragons Lair on Facebook.

“Here is just some of the support that Mind gives our community; A professional 1-1 counselling service based in Melksham and a young people’s counselling service drop-in “You in Mind’.  Peer support Groups at Chippenham, Devizes, Malmesbury, Trowbridge, Salisbury, Tidworth and Melksham,  an evening group and a carers’ group (in conjunction with Carers Support Wiltshire). Young people’s counselling service working with those aged 11+.

“For businesses; mental health awareness training, dealing with stress and anxiety sessions and mindfulness sessions.

  • Council calls on Government to rethink Melksham bypass decision

By Local Democracy Reporter Peter Davison

During an emergency debate at full council on Tuesday 20th October, councillors overwhelmingly backed a motion condemning the decision and demanding continued investment in the key north-south route. They also called for the more than £500,000 the council has spent developing the scheme to be refunded.

Gompels has taken another step towards building its new warehouse in Melksham after submitting a detailed design of the scheme to Wiltshire Council. The reserved matters application covers the scale, layout, appearance, landscaping and access for the proposed development on land south of the A365 Bath Road and west of Turnpike Garage. It follows outline planning permission being granted earlier this year for the warehouse and office development, which the company says will be a major investment in the town and create hundreds of jobs.

Rob began researching the history while working with Melksham Remembers, a local history group. “It became clear that while thousands of airmen and airwomen trained and lived at RAF Melksham from its opening in 1940, its existence is rapidly fading from the community
