Nortree brothers pay tribute to grandfather with new range of campervans built in Melksham
BROTHERS and owners of Nortree Motor Company, Daniel and Edward Phillips, have designed a range of campervans that pay homage to their grandfather.
The Tiger Moth Campervan is a luxury campervan that is designed and built right here in Melksham and named after Trevor Phillips, their grandfather, who learnt to fly a Tiger Moth during World War II.
Daniel and Edward explain, “Our grandfather and founder of the company in 1952, Trevor Phillips, joined the Army gliding corps during the Second World War and carried out his training on the De Havilland Tiger Moth biplane.
“When we had the idea to build campervans, we wanted to keep the name close to our hearts so it wasn’t a difficult decision to honour him with the Tiger Moth Campervan.
“Since we launched the campervan before the lockdown, we have been on an exhilarating rollercoaster ride! We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve had since we started production, but the speed of this has taken us a little bit by surprise.”
The Tiger Moths were featured last month in The Times newspaper and with more people holidaying in the UK because of ongoing Covid restrictions, things have really taken off.
“We can’t keep up with production and have taken on a new unit and new staff at Bowerhill – alongside our premises in Beanacre Road – to keep up with demand,” added Daniel and Edward.
“Following the initial success of the ‘ready-made luxury’ campervan, we are now also offering bespoke orders to meet our clients’ specific wishes.
“Every Tiger Moth Campervan, is totally unique. Just like the aircraft, the vehicles have their personal identification number displayed on the side, this number reflects the year and month it started life as a campervan.
“You choose an unmistakable vibrant colour or a more moderate style, and choose every detail right down to the stitching in the leather seats.
“The campervans are built on a short-wheel base Ford Transit Custom, which makes it easy to drive and use just like a normal car. They have a 5 speed manual gearbox, air conditioning, and leather heated seating as standard. Although you are away from home, the Tiger Moth offers many home comforts like a modern side kitchen, a comfortable fold down double bed downstairs and additional sleeping space in the roof.
“Starting life right here in Melksham, the Tiger Moth Campervan really is the perfect way to hit the road in style and comfort!”
