VISITORS to Melksham’s ClimateFest, held on Sunday 2nd October, were put to the test about whether they could tell the difference between tap and bottled water. Tap water was from the Assembly Hall and bottled water from a local supermarket.
Both Ian Cardy and Sue Mortimer would like to thank the 100 people who took part in the test. Sue said, “Tap water is convenient, free, or inexpensive and has much less of an environmental impact than bottled. We are all aware of the damage plastic waste does to the oceans but do we know that it takes a quarter of a litre of oil to produce a single one-litre water bottle?
“Even allowing for chance, people were unable to tell the difference. Just 28% of participants were able to correctly identify the difference between tap and bottled water.
“Using tap water instead of bottled is something we can all be thinking about doing that will not only save us money, but will help with the environment as well. It just a win/win!”
